The loss of BJP in Parli came as a major humiliation for BJP, as the region was considered to be the stronghold of late Gopinath Munde, the father of Pankaja. Taking moral responsibility of the disappointing performance of BJP, Pankaja decided to relinquish her ministerial berth. A letter was dispatched by her to the Chief Minister Minister Devendra Fadnavis, resigning from the post of Women and Children Welfare Minister. Pankaja had earlier too threatened to resign, burdened under allegations of corruption. In a series of cryptic comments, she claimed that her opponents want to drown her political career. Pankaja did not specify whether the Opposition, or members from her own party are targeting her.
“I have shouldered the legacy of my father on my tender shoulders. How much can one be targeted?” Pankaja had said in October. She further added, “If people of my constituency indicate unhappiness with my performance, I would resign from the Cabinet.”
