Maheshtala By-election Results: The Maheshtala by-election result will be declared today on May 31. The counting of votes for Maheshtala Vidhan Sabha by-election results will begin at 8 AM today and the early trends are expected to be out by 10 AM. Maheshtala Vidhan Sabha seat in West Bengal went to polls on May 28 and 73 per cent votes were polled as 2.58 lakh voters exercised their franchise at 283 booths of the assembly constituency. In the Maheshtala Vidhan Sabha seat in West Bengal, the Congress party didn’t field any candidate leaving the seat for CPM to contest. The by-election to the Maheshtala seat was necessitated following the death of TMC MLA Kasturi Das in February 2018. Kasturi’s widower Dulal Das has now been fielded by the party to contest on the seat. Das had alleged that BJP had distributed money a day before the polling in different areas. On the other hand, BJP candidate Sujit Ghosh expressed displeasure at the role of the central forces deployed at the polling booths. “Overall polling went on peacefully but I have complaints regarding the central forces. They were deployed only in the booths and did not conduct patrolling,” he said. On the polling day, Congres leader Kamalesh Sarkar was detained for security reasons. Till 5 PM, the voter turn out in Maheshtala was recorded at 70.01 per cent. Even though the voting was peaceful, as many as 36 EVMs had to be replaced in the day. Today, on May 31, the counting of the votes in Maheshtala By-election will take place and the results will be announced today itself.
