Malappuram Bye-Election Results 2017 Latest Update: Congress-led UDF and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) candidate P K Kunhalikutty on Monday secured massive lead of more than 30,000 votes.

Malappuram, Apr 17: Congress-led UDF and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) candidate P K Kunhalikutty on Monday secured massive lead of more than 30,000 votes over his nearest rival and CPI-M candidate M B Faisal after initial round of counting for the Malappuram bye-election results 2017 in Kerala. IUML candidate P K Kunhalikutty received 114841 votes, while the CPI-M’s Faisal got 78538, when the last reports came. The BJP candidate Sree Prakash lagged way behind with 17042 votes in the Malappuram bypolls. With such massive lead, the IUML is likely to retain the Malappuram Lok Sabha seat. As many as nine candidates are in fray for the Malappuram bypolls. Former Kerala Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty is the IUML candidate The CPI-M fielded young face M B Faisal and the BJP fielded Sree Prakash. There are six other independent candidates in fray. The polling for the Malappuram bypoll results was held on April 12. Over 68 per cent turnout was recorded in the Malappuram bypolls.

The Malappuram bye-election was called after the death of sitting MP, E Ahamed of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) in February.
