New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday sent Rakhi to Patidar leader Hardik Patel. Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Dinesh Trivedi met Patel at his residence where the latter is sitting on an indefinite fast pressing for reservation for the Patidar community and waiver of farm debt in the state of Gujarat. Dinesh Trivedi gave Mamata’ s Rakhi to Hardik and expressed TMCs support on his fast.

The Patidar leader expressed his happiness on receiving Rakhi on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan and stated “Didi has sent Rakhi through Dineshji’s hand, Dineshji came here and he was stunned to see Gujrat police’s role.

Meanwhile, Dinesh Trivedi stated “People are with Hardik, we are with him. Mamata di has sent her Rakhi to Hardik. We the entire nation is with Hardik. It feels here in Ahmedabad British rule is here. Entire Ahmedabad has been packed by the Army.”

It must be noted that both Mamata Banerjee and Hardik Patel share a good rapport with each other.  Hardik once said, “After Indira Gandhi, it is Mamata Banerjee who I feel can lead the country”. For the last three years, Banerjee has been reacting over national issues- from demonetisation to NRC and by sending Rakhi to Hardik Patel while he is fasting ‘Didi’ has signalled that she wants to boost up the anti-Modi camp before 2019 polls.

Patel, who is on an indefinite hunger strike for the quota demand, received support from parties like the TMC and the RJD today. A large number of women lined outside his residence to tie him a Rakhi on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

RJD representative Bharat Bhushan Mandal said his party is also standing with Hardik Patel in his fight. “Hardik is emerging as a national leader as the state government is trying to suppress his demand strongly,” Mandal said. RJD leader and former Bihar deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav and others are most likely to visit Patel in the days to come.

Hardik has not contested in Gujrat election himself and has given support to Congress.
