Ballia, April 24: Controversial UP BJP MLA Surendra Singh has put his foot in his mouth again, this time by calling West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee “surpnakha”, the demon princess, alleging that people were dying on the streets in the state. At the foundation stone-laying ceremony for a road here on Tuesday, Singh said such a Chief Minister wasn’t good for the state. He said Hindus were unsafe in India and if nothing was done about it, then West Bengal would face a Jammu & Kashmir-like situation.
He went on to claim that terrorists from Bangladesh had entered the state and were torturing Hindus. Even as he alleged that the Congress was Ravana, he said, “We are fortunate that we have a leader like Modi ji (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) and we will oust all foreign elements from (West) Bengal.”
Singh had earlier spoken out on Unnao rape case, claiming that nobody would rape a mother of three children. He had also alleged that the survivor had earlier filed a similar complaint of rape against someone else, questioning the veracity of the survivor’s version. The Unnao rape case has made headlines for days on end now. After the PMO intervened, BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar was arrested and inquiry is on. The survivor had tried to set herself ablaze at Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s residence in protest against the government’s apathy towards her. Then, her father died in police custody and the family alleged he died after he was beaten mercilessly.
