Badaun, June 17: A man set his wife and his 2-year-old son ablaze in Uttar Pradesh’s Badaun district on June 15. The man along with his family set his wife and son on fire who succumbed to their injuries yesterday. The woman and child were admitted to Badaun district hospital and were later referred to Bareilly’s district hospital. A dowry case has been registered against the man and his family for the cold-blooded murder of the woman and the child by the deceased’s parents.

In a statement to the police, the woman’s parents said that the man and his family had been harassing them and torturing his daughter for dowry for quite a long time. They alleged that when their daughter couldn’t bring any more dowry, it is then they tormented and killed her.

Dataganj police station’s station house officer Indresh Kumar said that they have registered a case against the man and his family members. He said,”We have lodged an FIR against Saurabh, his two brothers, his mother, his sister-in-law and his maternal grandmother under IPC sections 304 B (dowry death), 302 (murder), apart from relevant sections of the Dowry Prohibition Act. The bodies have been sent for postmortem in Bareilly. We are investigating the matter and will take appropriate action.”
On the contrary, the man claimed that his wife had committed suicide. He went on to add that his family didn’t have their own house and stayed in their maternal grandmother’s house. He further said that both his wife and his grandmother engaged in verbal fight and the usual occurred on June 15 after which his wife committed suicide by burning herself and his son.
