Manish Sisodia Was Not a Minister When he Rejected Plea: Nirbhaya Convict Lawyer Now Moves Election Commission

New Delhi: In a last-ditch attempt to delay the execution of the four convicts of the 2012 Nirbhaya gangrape case, scheduled on March 3, convict Vinay Sharma’s lawyer AP Singh has moved the Election Commission complaining against the procedure in which the Delhi government rejected Vinay’s mercy plea.

Singh used the same argument in court as well, as he had complained that proper procedures were not followed as model code of conduct was in force. The OSD obtained Manish Sisodia’s signature through WhatsApp, he had alleged. In his appeal to the EC, he has reiterated that when the mercy plea was rejected and forwarded, the model code of conduct was there. The court hadn’t accepted these arguments whatsoever.

“I want that the pride of the EC, President, Supreme Court and Home Ministry shouldn’t be destroyed in this way,” the lawyer said.

Meanwhile, Vinay Sharma has reportedly hit head on the wall of his cell early this week. He was trying to hurt his hand as well, but the in-charge stopped him. He was taken to a hospital and was released after first-aid.

This is the third time an execution date is being set in the Nirbhaya case after being deferred twice already – on January 22 and February 1 – due to the convicts seeking their legal remedies.
