New Delhi, May 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday addressed nation through his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat and congratulated the six-member women team of Indian Naval Sailing Vessel (INSV) Tarini who sailed 22,000 nautical miles in 254 days to circumnavigate the globe. “These six daughters of India undertook the Navika Sagar Parikrama and in 254 days, they circumnavigated the globe in the INVS Tarini. They returned to India on May 21 and they were welcomed quite vigourously. While sailing over various seas and oceans, they covered 22,000 nautical miles, which is a first of it’s kind feat,” the Prime Minister said in the 44th edition Mann Ki Baat. Speaking about the latest Fit India Challenge, PM said,When I say ‘Fit India’, I believe that the more we play, the more we will inspire the country to come out and play. People are sharing videos of Fitness Challenge on Social Media. Everybody is now getting connected with this FitIndia Campaign. People from the film fraternity, Sports, common citizens, members of armed forces, school teachers or even those toiling in fields and farms, their rising notes are building up crescendo. For me, it’s heartwarming that captain of Indian Cricket team Kohli ji has included me in his challenge and I too have accepted his challenge. He also spoke of the adverse effects of plastic and appealed to people not to use things made by using low grade materials . “I appeal to everyone to understand the importance of this theme. Let us make sure that we don’t use polythene, lower grade plastic as plastic pollution adversely impacts nature, wildlife and even our health,” the Prime Minister said. Noting that India will host the global World Environment Day celebrations on June 5, Modi said it was an important achievement as the country had a growing role in the world towards mitigating climate change. The theme of the day this time is “Beat Plastic Pollution”.

Modi further said that in the past few weeks, parts of the country witnessed dust storm, strong winds and unseasonal heavy rains which led to loss of lives and damaged goods. “These sudden changes in weather pattern are a result of change in our lifestyle.  We have to live with harmony with nature. Mahatma Gandhi advocated this matter every step of life,” he added.

In his last Mann ki Baat programme, on April 29, PM Modi had announced ‘Swachh Bharat Summer Internship’ for Youngsters and also had lauded the achievements of Indian athletes at recently concluded Commonwealth Games 2018. “Our athletes lived up to the expectations of the country and won medal after medal. It was a fantastic performance in 2018 Commonwealth Games,” the Prime Minister had said in the 43rd edition of his radio programme. He had also appreciated Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar for his contribution towards the Fit India Movement.
