Panaji: Goa health minister Vishwajit Rane Saturday divulged that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is suffering from pancreatic cancer. After months of speculation regarding the Goa CM’s health, Rane finally spoke how Parrikar is being nursed at home.
Though Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had been dodging the question on Parrikar’s heath from some time now the relentless persistence by Opposition led the Goa BJP and the state administration to finally admit that the state chief minister was ailing.
Rane’s admission on Parrikar’s health came just a day after Congress gave the state government four days to prove that Parrikar was of “sound health and mind” and in a position to govern the state. Rane said, “He is the CM of Goa and the fact is that he is not well. He has got pancreatic cancer. There is no hiding of this fact.”
While requesting people to let Parrikar be at peace, the Goa health minister said that it was nobody’s business to ask if the CM was spending quality time with his own family. Rane added, “Let him be peaceful with his family. That much right he has, after serving the people of Goa, that if he wants to spend some quality time with his family, nobody has the business to ask.” (Also Read: Parrikar Knows ‘Many Secrets’ of Rafale Deal, BJP Fears Removing Him From CM’s Post: Cong)
The BJP had on earlier occasion said that the Goa Chief Minister’s health was better. It had said, “The Chief Minister is better now and the rumours that are being spread that he will resign from his post are false. The coalition government has been formed for five years and the CM will complete his tenure,” said Goa BJP President Vijay Tendulkar to media. The BJP’s state core committee had met to discuss the current political situation.
Earlier this year, Parrikar had undergone a three-month-long treatment in the US.
