Mumbai, August 9: With the massive Maratha Kranti Morcha taking place in Mumbai today, the Central Railway has made special arrangements to deal with the overcrowding of trains that is expected. Due to the Morcha, roads from many parts of the city will be closed. Also, lots of people might travel in the local trains to participate in the protest which can lead to overcrowding in Mumbai local trains today. To tackle this situation, the Central Railway attached extra general coaches to seven long-distance trails.
“Based on inputs about the number of people who will go back to their destinations after the rally, probably after two pm, we will run additional suburban services as per the requirement, as are run during peak hours,” Sunil Udasi, chief PRO of Central Railway, said. Udasi also stated that along with extra general coaches being attached to the trains, additional ticket window will be opened for issuing tickets, reported PTI.
“We have two rakes in standby mode. If required, we will run them as special trains from CSMT (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Mumbai Terminus) to Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Terminus (Kolhapur) via Manmad and Karjat routes,” Sunil Udasi said.
The Maratha Kranti Morcha will begin at 11 am from Byculla’s Jijamata Udyan and end at 5 pm at the Azad Maidan. To ensure a peaceful protest and control the traffic turbulence, over 7,000 policemen are deployed in the city today. The traffic will be diverted from JJ Road, Mohammed Ali Road and the JJ Flyover up to CST and the Hazarimal Somani Marg informed the Mumbai police. All the roads mentioned are key routes in South Mumbai. The Mumbai Police also issued a traffic advisory to citizens for today. They will keep updating the traffic scenario to people via social media and FM Radio.
