New Delhi, September 5: Cricketer Gautam Gambhir on Tuesday announced that he will be bearing the education cost of the daughter of slain Jammu and Kashmir cop Abdul Rashid. In an emotional tweet, Gambhir had written, “Zohra, I can’t put u 2 sleep wid a lullaby but I’ll help u 2 wake up 2 live ur dreams. Will support ur education 4 lifetime.”

He further wrote, “Zohra, plz don’t let those tears fall as I doubt even Mother Earth can take d weight of ur pain. Salutes to ur martyred dad ASI, Abdul Rashid.”

Responding to the announcement, Zohra welcomed the kind gesture by Gautam Gambhir and thanked him for the support. Zohra also expressed her wish to become a doctor. She was quoted by ANI as saying, “Thank you Gautam Sir, me and my family are very happy with your gesture, I want to become a doctor.”

Earlier, Gambhir pledged to bear the educational expenses of the children of the 25 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, who were killed in an attack by the Maoists in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma. Gautam Gambhir Foundation had taken care of the entire educational expenses of the children of the soldiers killed.

The images of Zohra crying her heart out as police personnel bid adieu to her slain father yesterday have been widely circulated on various social media platforms.

Rashid was shot and rushed to a hospital in Anantnag and then shifted to an Army Hospital. But he succumbed to his injuries.

S P Pani, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), south Kashmir had also written,  “The sacrifice made by your father will always be remembered. You are too young to understand as to why this happened.”
