New Delhi, Feb 23: A massive protest was staged by thousands of farmers in Haryana’s Faridabad. The agitating farmers, who were demanding the implementation of the Swaminathan Commission recommendations, were moving in Delhi but were stopped at Delhi-Faridabad border.
Zee News reported that farmers from 62 organisation in Rajasthan, Haryana, and Punjab came together to protest for their common demand. Police from these three states stopped them to control the situation.
The Swaminathan Commission report recommended that a system should be created for food and nutrition security, sustainability, and enhancing quality of farm commodities. The commission also recommended measures for credit to farmers and to improve marketing of the produce.
The commission said that the farmers must have access and control of basic resources like land, water, insurance, technology, and markers. It also recommended large scale land reforms.
