New Delhi: A tyre of an AC bus travelling on the Agra Expressway in Lucknow suddenly burst, and a massive fire broke out. Within minutes, the bus was engulfed in flames. Seventy passengers were on board at the time of the accident; all of them escaped unhurt. The fire was so intense that the smoke was visible up to two km away.
Passengers and nearby residents tried to extinguish the fire but could not succeed. A fire brigade team arrived at the scene about an hour later. After considerable effort, the fire was brought under control, but by then the bus had been engulfed in flames.
The accident occurred around 4:30 am on Sunday, 26 October 2025, near the toll plaza on the expressway in the Kakori police station area. The bus was travelling from Delhi to Gonda. There was a large crowd due to the Chhath festival. Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
The tyre burst, then suddenly, smoke started coming out. Passengers said that the bus was moving at a speed of 80 to 90 on the expressway when suddenly the rear tyre burst. There was a loud noise and the bus swayed. The driver immediately applied the brakes. He got down and was checking when suddenly smoke started coming out from the rear side.
The driver and cleaner got scared seeing the smoke. They shouted for the passengers to come out. It was morning time, so most of the passengers were sleeping. Many people left their luggage in the bus and ran out. By then, the smoke had turned into flames.
