Lucknow, March 5: Reacting on Prime Minister’s Narendra Modi’s roadshow in Varanasi, Bahujan Samaj Party Chief Mayawati on Sunday said that the roadshows by Bharatiya Janta Party are in contravention with Model Code of Conduct of the Election Commission. Mayawati alleged that these roadshows will affect free and fair elections in the state. Former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh said Election Commission should take appropriate action in this regard. Bahujan Samaj Party is contesting assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh alone.
Prime Minister Narendra is holding the roadshow in Varanasi for the second consecutive day. He held a roadshow on Sunday which began from Pandey Chauraha and concluded at Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth. Several political observers found it unprecedented in the recent political history of the Uttar Pradesh where the Prime Minister himself have taken charge of the election campaign.
Union Cabinet Minister Upendra Kushwaha too opined that he should not have hold roadshows in the assembly elections. He was allegedly displeased by the party’s decision not to make his party an alliance partner in Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.
Apart from holding roadshows, PM Modi also addressed two rallies in Jaunpur and Varanasi. The saffron party is in pressure to repeat its performance of Lok Sabha elections in 2014. The victory in Uttar Pradesh assembly elections will ensure a majority in the upper house of Parliament, the Rajya Sabha.
Apart from facing stiff competition from the opponents like Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party, the saffron party is also witnessing intense rift within the party. The party declined ticket to Seven-time MLA Shyam Dev Roy Chaudhary citing his age. Humiliated by the party’s decision, Shyam Dev Roy Chaudhary declined to campaign for the party. Varanasi comprises 8 constituencies including Pindra, Ajagara, Shivpur, Varanasi North, Varanasi South and Varanasi Cantt.
Apart from showing good performance in the city, the party is also expecting better performance in rest of the districts. The polling for the seventh phase of Uttar Pradesh assembly elections will be conducted in Ghazipur, Varanasi, Chandauli, Mirzapur, Bhadohi, Sonbhadra and Jaunpur. A total of 40 assembly constituencies will go to polls on March 8.
The polling for the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections would be concluded on March 8. The result of the assembly elections will be declared on March 11.
