New Delhi: Days after facing an embarrassing defeat in Rajouri Garden bye-election, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday appealed people not to be swayed by Modi wave in upcoming Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections 2017. While talking exclusively to leading national channel CNN-News 18, Kejriwal intensifies his attack on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and said that if people would vote for them in MCD elections, there will be garbage everywhere instead of developmental work.
“All of us will be unhappy. Second, I see BJP’s advertisements and all I can say is they are begging for votes through Modi. Modiji is not going to run MCD, corrupt people are going to run the MCD. Hence, I don’t want people to get persuaded with Modi wave,” Kejriwal said while talking to the channel.
On being asked about Modi wave, the Delhi Chief Minister said,” I request people not to be swayed by this so called Modi wave. Please see how the BJP has run MCD in the past 10 years and compare it with the AAP government in Delhi for two years. AAP has done so many things that people are appreciating it.”
However, Kejriwal was very much confident of his victory in the MCD polls. He told CNN-News 18 that they are winning this election definitely. “If AAP doesn’t win MCD elections, then what will happen to Delhi,” asserted Kejriwal.
Speaking about AAP’s loss in bye-election Kejriwal said,”Rajouri Garden voters were angry, questioning why their MLA resigned to fight elections in Punjab. But Jarnail Singh wanted to fight from Punjab. But this didn’t go down well with the people, we were unsuccessful in pacifying them.”
A few days back, it was reported that Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal had decided to change its strategy ahead of MCD Elections 2017. If reports are to be believed, the party will not target PM Narendra Modi in its campaign. The Arvind Kejriwal-led party has also decided to remain focused on the “positive campaign” in the crucial MCD elections. The change in AAP strategy for MCD Elections 2017 came after it showed poor performances in Goa and Punjab Assembly elections followed by a defeat in Rajouri Garden bye-election on April 13.
