New Delhi, April 6: The South Delhi Municipal Corporation could be called richest of the three civic corporations but, there are few wards that have have been facing ignorance from their chosen Councillors for last five years. Although Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) enumerated its work by showing off its achievements in past five years in areas of health etc, one hospital run by MCD in Srinivaspuri ward still struggles to get its basic demands fulfilled.
The MCD hospital just around G Block in Srinivaspuri could just be the most neglected of the SDMC hospitals. One of them include having no security guard in the hospital for past few years.
“Security is a big issue here. Despite the hospital having two women nurses, no security has been provided in the hospital,” said Bindu (name changed).
The people working in the MCD hospital also witness some drunk intruders from the nearby slum area called theke wali basti at late hours. On being asked if complaints have been made against the men, Bindu said that she and the other workers of the area have approached the SDMC office in Lajpat Nagar but nothing has so far been done about the issue. “We have asked SDMC to get a wall erected to separate this hospital from the slum area, but nothing has been done about it. They sit on their roof tops and are usually drunk. They even abuse the people working here. It gets difficult for us to even go out in the backyard of the hospital,” Bindu said.
The sanitation, which isn’t much of an issue in the areas under SDMC, seem to be one big problem where it is much needed. “The sanitation workers do not work. They postpone their work. You can see some construction work is going on but we need to have 24*7 conditions because it’s about the health of the people coming here to get treated,” another staff member told india.com.
When confronted if it was about their salaries, she said that they get salaries on time but “these people don’t want to work”. All in all, the condition of the hospital wasn’t what it should be.
When this was confronted with an official from SDMC office at Lajpat Nagar, Kumar (name changed) said, “We don’t know about this issue.” About sanitation he said, “There are nearly 7,000 sanitation workers that have been put on duty. The number isn’t less. This is nothing but a cliched image of MCD that it doesn’t work. We do work and we made sure the work is done.” He also said that the SDMC gets work done as much as it is possible. “But sometimes it happens; some things get left,” he said.
In other news, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) presented its South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) report card claiming to have performed the best in the South corporation. The SDMC leader of the House Subhash Arya enumerated the work done by the municipal corporation in areas of health and education, street lighting, garbage collection, flyovers and development of amusement park.
