New Delhi: As the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP is set to form the government in Delhi for a third term, opposition leaders have begun congratulating the party for registering a thumping victory against the BJP. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Mehbooba Mufti, who has been in detention in Kashmir for several months, also reacted to AAP’s win in Delhi via a tweet posted on her behalf. “On behalf of Ms Mufti, I’d like to congratulate @ArvindKejriwal for his spectacular victory & especially Dilliwallahs for rejecting vitriolic divisive politics & voting on real issues instead,” Mehbooba’s daughter Iltija Mufti tweeted from her mother’s handle on Tuesday. Further, taking a dig at Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement about Shaheen Bagh protests, she said, “Those exhorting Dilliwallahs to send a current got electrocuted themselves & that too at high voltage.”
Mehbooba, the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister, has been under detention since August 5 last year when the Centre revoked the erstwhile state’s special status and bifurcated it into union territories — Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
Meanwhile, as per latest trends, AAP is leading in 63 seats, the BJP in seven constituencies while the Congress drew a blank in the 70-member assembly. Soon after, Bharatiya Janata Party national president JP Nadda said his party accepts the mandate given by the people of Delhi, adding that the party will now play the role of a constructive opposition in the national capital.
The counting of votes for 70 seats of the Delhi Assembly began amid tight security at 8 am today. Delhi went to polls in a single-phase on February 8.
