Mehbooba Mufti Was Working With Separatists: Centre's Dossier Defends Former J&K CM's PSA Detention

New Delhi: Days after former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti slapped with the draconian Public Safety Act (PSA), the Home Ministry, in a six page dossier, cited grounds for her detention and claimed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supremo was working with separatists.

The MHA also accused her of making anti-national statements and extending support to organisations such as the Jamaat-e-Islamia, which has been banned under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The dossier also talked about Mehbooba Mufti’s tweets before the revocation of Article 370. Mehbooba Mufti’s mindset can be figured out from her tweets, the government document stated, alleging that the tweets were made with the aim of inciting and dividing people.

In the run up to the abrogation of Article 370, the former J&K CM on August 5 had tweeted,”That the abrogation of Article 370 has not just made accession null and void, and also reduces India to an occupation force in J&K.”

The dossier further said that Mufti’s ‘vitriolic and mischievous instigation’ can be gauged from her another tweet, which is based on nothing but blatant lies ‘aimed at demoralising security forces’.

“Every human even a militant deserves dignity after death. Armed forces’ use of chemicals in encounters disfiguring their bodies is inhuman. Imagine the emotions that’ll overcome a boy who sees his brother’s mutilated charred body. Won’t you be surprised if he picked up a gun,” Mufti had tweeted. Notably, the document has referred to 12-odd tweets of Mufti to justify her (Mufti) PSA detention.

The dossier said, Mehbooba Mufti is referred for her dangerous and insidious mechanisms and usurping profile and nature by the masses as ‘daddy’s girl’ and ‘Kota Rani’, a medieval period queen of Kashmir who rose to power by virtue of intrigues and poisoning her opponents.

Furthermore, the MHA in its dossier asserted criticising government policies in a democratic setup is not a crime, but whipping up mass hysteria, based on details far away from truth, intended to provoke disturbance to the public order should be responded to for safety and security of common people, and development of the nation.

The 60-year-old Mehbooba Mufti had been under preventive detention since August 5 last year, when the Centre announced abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution granting a special status and bifurcation of the erstwhile state into two union territories — Ladakh, and Jammu and Kashmir.

She was booked under the PSA on the night of February 6, barely a few hours before their preventive detention was to end. According to rules, preventive detention can be extended beyond six months only if an advisory board, constituted two weeks before the completion of the 180-day period, recommends for that.
