New Delhi: Mumbai’s Dindoshi Sessions Court on Friday reserved the order on the anticipatory bail application filed by actor Alok Nath in the Vinta Nanda rape case for December 31 ‘as dictation of the order was not completed’. Notably, a plea for pre-arrest bail was filed before Additional Sessions Judge S S Oza on December 13 this year.
Writer-producer Vinta Nanda had registered a complaint against Alok Nath on October 17 at the Oshiwara police station for sexually assaulting her nearly two decades back. Subsequently, the Mumbai police filed a rape case against Alok Nath under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Denying the allegations levied by Nanda, Alok Nath had told Aaj Tak, “In the current situation, if a woman accuses a man, no one will consider listening to a man’s version so it’s useless to react. I have known her. I would not like to comment on it. She has the right to put forward her thoughts. Right now, I am trying to come to terms with the whole thing. Will comment later.”
Alok Nath was the lead actor in a TV serial Tara in which Nanda was the writer and producer. Nanda narrated her ordeal in a Facebook post at a time when the #MeToo movement was at full swing. She also took the legal route to deal with the case. Earlier, Alok Nath filed a civil suit against the complainant seeking Rs 1 as compensation for defaming him. Though Nanda did not name Nath in the post, the complainant referred to him as the actor who is known as the “most Sanskari person”.
