New Delhi: Amid the rising number of disturbing reports of #MeToo incidences, Maneka Gandhi, Minister for Women and Child Development on Friday said that her ministry will soon propose a committee with senior judicial and legal persons as members to look into all issues emanating from the ongoing campaign.

“I believe in all of them. I believe in the pain and trauma behind every single complainant. I am proposing to set up a committee with senior judicial and legal persons as members to look into all issues emanating from the #MeToo campaign,” Gandhi said in an interview.

“(We) will form four-member committee of retired judges to conduct public hearings of #MeToo cases,” a news agency quoted the minister as saying.

Last week, Gandhi had said that she is am very happy that the movement has started. However, she hoped people wouldn’t misuse it.  “I hope it won’t go out of control in the sense that we target people who’ve offended us in some way, the minister had said, and added that she knew women were responsible people and she realised how anger at sexual molestation never goes away.

On Thursday, Union Minister Smriti Irani had supported women to gather the courage to come out with their stories of sexual harassment at workplace. Reacting on the accusations of sexual assault against Minister of State for External Affairs MJ Akbar, Irani said that he himself would be in better position to speak on this issue.

“I appreciate that the media is accosting his (former) female colleagues, but I think it is for the gentleman concerned to issue a statement not for me, because I was personally not present there. But I have said again and again that the women speaking out should in no way feel ashamed. Anybody who is speaking out shouldn’t be victimized or mocked at,” Irani had said, while speaking to reporters.

Notably, the #MeToo campaign has gained momentum in the country with a lot of women speaking up about the harassment they faced at the workplace. Among the prominent names that have been taken are those of film director Sajid Khan Vikas Behl, singer Kailash Kher and actor Alok Nath, Rajat Kapoor Piyush Mishra and many others.
