New Delhi, March 5: In a huge relief for Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad’s daughter, a Delhi court on Monday granted bail to Misa Bharti and her husband in a money laundering case. Both Misa and her husband have been asked to file a bail bond of Rs 2 lakh each by the court.
However, the Patiala House Court has barred both from leaving the country without its consent. On December 23, 2017, the Enforcement Directorate filed a third chargesheet against a chartered accountant of Rajya Sabha MP Misa Bharti, her husband Shailesh Kumar and others in the Rs 8,000 crore money laundering case.
Earlier, Misa had put the onus of running a company being probed for money laundering on her husband and a dead CA, even though the ED has said that the duo “actively conspired” to launder Rs 1.2 crore using shell firms. The agency, in its chargesheet filed against the couple in December, had said they were “party and actively connected with proceeds of crime including its concealment, possession, acquisition or use and projecting or claiming it as untainted property, and thus are guilty of offence of money laundering.”
Misa has been questioned by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the case. She gave brief replies and told the agency that the day-to-day business activities of the firm were “looked after by her husband Shailesh Kumar and the financial records of this company were maintained by the CA of the company, late Sandeep Sharma.” (Also Read: Trouble Mounts For Lalu Prasad Yadav, Misa Bharti And Shailesh Kumar as I-T Department Issues Final Attachment Order)
Hence, she said, her husband and the deceased CA “would be in a better position” to answer questions about the company and the farmhouse purchased by it.
