PM Modi should explain to the country why Anil Ambani’s Reliance Defence was chosen over State-run Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) as the offset partner of French firm Dassault Aviation, he said.

“Modi ji said he wants to become ‘chowkidar’ (peon) of the nation and not PM. Now please tell us why did you put country’s Rs 30,000 crore in Ambani’s pocket, what is your motive behind this,” Gandhi questioned.

“Anil Ambani is under debt of Rs 45,000 crore, Modi ji gave him the contract of Rafale aircrafts. Ambani ji created the company ten days before the deal,” he added.

Modi “avoided eye contact” when he asked questions about the deal in Parliament, because the prime minister had “lied” to the country on the issue, Rahul Gandhi alleged.

“Mahatma Gandhi talked about uniting India, Modiji is dividing India….(he) pitched one community against another,” he said.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government waived loans worth Rs 3.20 lakh crore of capitalists who were close to it, but did not write off the debts of farmers, the Congress chief said.

The “thieves of India” turned their black money into white through the back door, while the common people had to queue up outside the banks to deposit the scrapped Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes (after demonetisation), he added.

“He (Modi) is not a chowkidar (watchman), but bhagidar (partner, of capitalists),” Rahul Gandhi charged.

“You tried PM Modi, he broke your trust. Now repose trust in Congress to take India forward,” he told the gathering.

The Congress president also alleged that PM Modi’s promises of depositing Rs 15 lakh in every Indian’s bank account and 2 crore jobs to youths were nothing but completes lies.

He also cornered the prime minister over the rising fuel prices, claiming that the crude prices across the world are falling, adding that the government is increasing the petrol and diesel rates to “fill pockets of his friends”.

“Global crude oil prices have been falling, but in India fuel prices are consistently increased. Modi govt is stealing money from the people to fill the pockets of his friends,” said Gandhi.

Earlier, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) said it condemns the use of force against farmers and vowed to fight for their rights.

At the meeting, the CWC called for “second freedom struggle against ideology of hate and violence that led to Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination”.

In a tweet, Rahul accused the BJP of “brutally beating up” farmers at the Delhi border on International Day of Non-Violence and said they cannot even air their grievances in the national capital.
