Bisada, November 9: Sartaj, son of Mohammad Akhlaq, who was lynched by angry mob following beef rumour, applauded the Bihar Assembly Election Results 2015 and called it a victory over politics of hatred. Sartaj, a corporal in the IAF, also said that Bihar election result is a tribute to his father. “There’s no space for hate politics in our country. Today’s result is a tribute to my father, and against hate and communalism. People should realise there is no gain in fighting in the name of religion. I appeal to all politicians not to divide the country for the sake of power,” Sartaj was quoted as saying by Times of India.
On Sunday, residents of Bisada village started gathering in houses of a few who have television set with inverters or generators to witness the Bihar election results, after unexpected power cut. Bhoop Singh, a 75-year old resident, blamed politicians for disturbing communal harmony in the village. “I was born, and I’ll breathe my last in this village. I’ve never experienced any communal tension in my village in all these years, as much as the recent tension after Akhlaq’s unfortunate death, which hurt me deeply,” said Singh. “If politicians had not visited our village, we were capable of dealing with the situation. But politicians need vote banks. The Bihar result is a slap on their faces,” he added.
“Killing Akhlaq was an unfortunate incident. There was no communal tension in the village even after Akhlaq’s death. But then, some politicians tried to disturb the harmony. We appeal all politicians to avoid visiting communally tense places,” Om Mahesh, another local, told TOI. After the shameful incident of Dadri, BJP leaders like Sangeet Som, Sakshi Maharaj, Mahesh Sharma made insensitive comments targeting minorities. The Dadri incident not only created nationwide outrage with many intellectuals and artists returning their awards in protest against rising intolerance in the country but also became biggest reason of BJP’s defeat in Bihar election. While the Grand Alliance of Nitish Kumar, Lalu Prasad Yadav and Congress achieved landslide victory winning 178 seats out of total 243 seats, the BJP led NDA could bag just 58 seats.
