Moradabad, July 29: A statue of Dr BR Ambedkar was vandalised by some unidentified miscreants in Moradabad’s Majhola town. An investigation into the matter has been initiated by the police. The face and hands of the statue were damaged in the incident. This is not the first such incident of vandalism.
The incident has come nearly 10 days after a statue of the Dalit icon was damaged in Rampur Asli village in Ballia. The face and a finger of the statue were damaged by the unknown men.

In April, another statue of Ambedkar was damaged a day another of his statue’s was vandalised in Gajna village in Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh before his 127th birth anniversary.
Officials said the two-feet statue of the Dalit leader was taken off the pedestal on which it had been installed. As a result, his legs came off while the shoes of the statue remained stuck to the brick-concrete pedestal.
Over half-a-dozen incidents of Ambedkar’s statues being vandalised have taken place in various parts of the state over few months.
On April 4, a statue of Mahatma Gandhi was vandalised in Nathdwara town of Rajasthan, following which three young men were arrested, police said. Police identified the accused as Ankit Gehlot, 25, Kuldeep Gehlot, 22, and Arvind Gehlot, 24. They will be produced in a court, a police official said.
