IndiGo Airlines has been suffering a major setback due to a crew shortage. This has caused wide disruption and has led to multiple flight cancellations. The airlines had to cancel about 200 flights on Wednesday, i.e., December 3. The effect has not yet ended, and it continues to be seen on Thursday, as 250 flights have been cancelled. More than 30 flights were cancelled in the early morning at New Delhi, leaving passengers in mayhem. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) stated that the aviation company had cancelled 1,232 flights in the month of November.

What’s IndiGo’s official statement?

After the latest IndiGo news of flight disruption, IndiGo gave a statement on Wednesday that read, “A multitude of unforeseen operational challenges, including minor technology glitches, schedule changes linked to the winter season, adverse weather conditions, increased congestion in the aviation system, and the implementation of updated crew rostering rules (Flight Duty Time Limitations), had a negative compounding impact on our operations in a way that was not feasible to be anticipated.”

It added, “To contain the disruption and restore stability, we have initiated calibrated adjustments to our schedules. These measures will remain in place for the next 48 hours and will allow us to normalise our operations and progressively recover our punctuality across the network.”

What’s the reason behind IndiGo’s flight cancellations?

The primary reason behind the repeated flight cancellations is coming out as the shortage of crew, especially pilots. This comes after the revision of Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL), which allows the crew to have more time for rest.
