Padma Awards 2017: MS Dhoni, PV Sindhu and Pullela Gopichand figure in list

Earlier in 2015, PV Sindhu received the Padma Shri and has been the youngest recipient of this award which is India's fourth highest civilian honour. The category of the badminton star and Dhoni in the Padma Awards 2017 has not yet been specified.

New Delhi, Jan 24: Former Indian cricket team captain and cricket star Mahendra Singh Dhoni and silver medal winner in Olympic badminton player PV Sindhu and badminton coach Pullela Gopichand’s name has been cleared by the Centre for the Padma awards this year. However which category of Padma they will be conferred has not yet been decided. The Padma Awards 2017 will be awarded on Jan 26. (Here is the full list)

The top Union Home Ministry has not yet specified the Padma category for Dhoni, Sindhu and Gopichand, but confirmation has been received the about these three sportstars among other recipients. The awards will be conferred on the eve of the 68th Republic day on January 26.

Earlier in 2015, PV Sindhu received the Padma Shri and has been the youngest recipient of this award which is India’s fourth highest civilian honour. she termed the 2015 Padma Shri as a ‘pleasant surprise’. Her coach Gopichand runs the Gopichand Badminton Academy and has received the Arjuna Award, Dronacharya Award and also Padma Bhushan. the third highest civilian award. With this year’s Padma award, both for Sindhu and Gopichand, it will be the second Padma award in their bags.
