Mumbai: Six special Bombay Electric Supply & Tramway Company Limited (BEST) buses are set to be deployed from Churchgate and Dadar during the 11-hour mega-block that is scheduled to begin from 9.30 PM on Saturday till 1.25 AM on Sunday in Mumbai. Trains will not ply during the mega-block due to the demolition of Delisle Road bridge at Lower Parel. However, with the availability of BEST bus service passengers will not be stranded during the rail block period.
The buses will cover all the stations in between Churchgate and Dadar including Marine Lines, Charni Road, Grant Road, Mumbai Central, Mahalaxmi, Lower Parel and Prabhadevi. A report by Times of India quoted BEST spokesperson BA Zodage as saying, “We are deploying six special buses, three from Backbay and three more from Worli depot, to ferry passengers who will be inconvenienced due to the rail block.” The special buses will also be available from 3.30 AM to 10 AM on Sunday to cater to the rush of commuters, added Zodage.
During the mega-block, fast trains will run from 10 PM on Saturday to 9 AM on Sunday, from Dadar to Virar or Dahanu Road station, stated Western Railway chief spokesperson Ravinder Bhakar. The demolition is expected to create debris which may fall on the tracks. Therefore, certain train services will remain halted until the debris is cleared, added Ravinder Bhakar. He also reportedly said that all the slow services will only ply between Bandra and Borivali or Bhayandar or Virar. Throughout the block, about 200 train services will remain cancelled, stated a report. The proposed block on the Western Railway was reportedly approved by the Railway Board after it sent the final order of approval on Thursday night.
