Mumbai, May 3: A 21-year-old engineering student, Meenakshi Priya Rajesh, from Tamil Nadu slipped and drowned while taking a selfie with her mother and sister at Bandra’s Bandstand. This incident took place on Monday around 3.30pm near. Police evacuated her body near Bandra-Worli sea link after two hours, with the help of local fishermen and fire brigade personnel.
Police reported that after giving a final exam in Tamil Nadu, Meenakshi came to Mumbai on April 30 along with her elder sister, father and mother. The entire family stayed in a hotel in Saki Naka Andheri.
Meenakshi and her family visited several places as they hired a cab for the whole day and planned to end the day at Bandra fort. Despite the danger sign board near the sea, Meenakshi went to take a selfie with her mother and sister at the edge of a rocky patch with the sea in the background. Meenakshi’s father even warned her, but she ignored him and went to take a selfie.
Police said in a report that a wave hit her and she lost her balance on the rocks and because it was high tide, she drifted away further into the sea. They could only hear her scream for help, calling her father.
Locals informed the police, fire brigade officials and an emergency ambulance. She was rushed to the Bhabha hospital in Bandra around 6 pm, the doctor declared her dead. Indeed this incident is extremely painful and a warning to be cautious.
