New Delhi: Malegaon blast accused Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, who is fighting from Bhopal parliamentary constituency on a BJP ticket, claimed that former Mumbai Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) chief Hemant Karkare, who died in action during the Mumbai terror attacks, had treated her badly and his ‘bad karma’ led to his death. Sadhvi said, “Maine kaha tera (Mumbai ATS chief late Hemant Karkare) sarvanash hoga. Theek sava mahine mein sutak lagta hai. Jis din main gayi thi us din iske sutak lag gaya tha.Aur theek sava mahine mein jis din atankwadiyon ne isko maara, us din uska anth hua.” (Hemant Karkare falsely implicated me in Malegaon blasts and treated me very badly. I told him your entire clan will be erased. He died because of his karma,” Sadhvi said.) Also Read - Petrol Hits a Ton: MP Man Poses With a Bat & Helmet As Fuel Prices Hit 100-Mark in Bhopal
The Maharashtra ATS had arrested Sadhvi and others in the Malegaon blast case. In May 2016, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had given a clean chit to the leader.
At least six people were killed and over 100 injured in a bomb blast at Malegaon on September 29, 2008. Former ATS Karkare had tracked down the owner of the motorcycle which was used in the attacks which belonged to Sadhvi.
Sadhvi has been pitted against Congress leader Digvijaya Singh and will file her nomination from the seat on April 23. On Thursday, she accused the Congress of being anti-Hindu and said the party harassed a woman by linking Hindus with terrorism.
Addressing a press conference in Bhopal, Thakur said, “Congress has linked Hindus with terrorism, called them terrorists and harassed a woman. The names that I was given and the way I was tortured… How do I believe this won’t be repeated with other women in the future?”
Sadhvi’s candidature from Bhopal seat on BJP’s ticket has been criticised by the opposition. Congress spokesperson Pankaj Chaturvedi said, “When known faces fled, the BJP was forced to import a candidate against Digvijaya Singh.”
In fact, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah questioned how could Thakur fight for the Lok Sabha elections if she couldn’t stay in jail due to poor health.
Further, the father of a Malegaon blast victim has filed a plea against Sadhvi Pragya Thakur after she was declared BJP’s candidate from Bhopal. The plea has questioned her candidature before the NIA court citing her health which was one of the reasons in her bail application.
