6 accused arrested in the transfer racket of police officers
Six accused who have been arrested by Mumbai police in the transfer racket revealed that 3 IPS officers approached the accused and one of them being a senior cop paid 3 crores to become the Police Commissioner. The accused claimed of meeting IPS officers in a five-star hotel in the suburbs of Mumbai from where they were arrested. Also, the six revealed that they were approached by an officer of Mumbai crime branch who wanted a transfer to Palghar and the deal was cemented at Rs 25 lakhs. All have been remanded to police custody until June 12.
Mumbai not to face brunt of farmers’ strike:
The farmers’ strike is unlikely to choke off essential supplies to the city as the high-level committee formed by the chief minister has taken negotiations to an advanced level. The committee, headed by Revenue Minister Chandrakant Patil, will explore all areas of writing off-farm debts, the issue of minimum support prices, pension for senior farmers etc. The committee will invite farmers’ leaders for discussions on their demands and seek suggestions, which will be submitted in a report to the government.
Salman Khan pitches in to make Mumbai open defecation free:
Bollywood actor Salman Khan with an aim to make his city open defecation free has joined hands with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and ‘I love Mumbai’ foundation. Salman on Friday along with the chiefs of BMC and ILM handed out public utility toilets at Madras Pada. Khan said,” More than 3000 houses have only 36 toilets and we will build toilets only if we get the permission to do so.” Apparently, for the utility toilets, Salman had shelled out money from his pocket.
The Meteorological Department claims very heavy rainfall for Mumbai for the next 48 hours on Saturday. Regional Meteorological Centre issues warning to local authorities about the possibility of very heavy rains during the next 48 hours. Mumbai has seen quite good rain in the past 24 hours, but now it is predicted that Mumbai will witness very heavy rainfall in next 48 hours.
