Mumbai:  Gangster Dawood Ibrahim‘s nephew Sohail Kaskar is likely to be deported from the US soon, sources in Mumbai Crime Branch have said. The process is likely to be completed soon so the custody can be expected within a week or ten days.

Kaskar is the son of Dawood’s brother Noora who died way back in 2010. Kaskar and his aide Danish Ali were arrested in Spain in 2014 by the US authorities on narco-terror charges. Ali is in Mumbai Police’s custody. He was deported from the US on November 15 last year.

Kaskar has been booked in two cases related to cheating and extortion.

Ali had left India and moved to Dubai in 2001 where he teamed up with Kaskar to operate a diamond smuggling ring. The two attempted to enter Russia but Ali was denied a visa, an official told PTI.

Ali then entered the country on a student visa and regrouped with Kaskar for diamond smuggling operations after attending college there for two years, the police official said. The duo came on the radar of US agencies when they moved to Spain from where they were nabbed, along with two Pakistani nationals, by these agencies, he said.

They were behind bars for a period of one-and-half years before being turned over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and then they were in jail for another two-and-half years starting September 2015, the official said.

Earlier in December, another Dawood aide, who was absconding after getting bail in the murder case of underworld don Ismail Parkar 22 years ago, was arrested.

Dayanand Salian alias Pujari, a member of the Arun Gawali gang, was arrested by the unit-7 of Mumbai Police’s Crime Branch after a trap was laid for him at Kanjurmarg in eastern suburbs, an official said. Pujari was allegedly involved in crimes like murder and attempt to murder carried out at the behest of the Gawali gang, he said.
