Mumbai, Jan 8: Shiv Sena leader Ashok Sawant was stabbed to death by unknown assailants outside his home in Mumbai late on Sunday night. Sawant, also a former Shiv Sena corporator, was killed in Kandivli at around 11 pm on Sunday while he was returning home after meeting a friend. The assailants fled the scene after killing him. Reports say that the two assailants were waiting outside Sawant’s building in Samta Nagar. They reportedly approached him and attacked him choppers before fleeing the scene. Sawant is survived by his wife, son and two daughters. Reports say that he had spoken to the police about having received extortion calls since he had entered a cable business. The police have filed a case under IPC Section 302 and investigation is underway.
