As Ganeshotsav kicks off, Mumbai’s public transport services are gearing up to cater to the city’s festive rush. The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply Transport (BEST) has announced extended operating hours to accommodate late-night and early-morning devotees. In a proactive move, BEST will deploy 24 night-special buses from September 7 to 16, operating from 10.30 pm to 6 am and covering 51 key routes across the city, including numbers 4, A-25, A-42, 44, 66, 69, and 51 during the night, according to the BEST administration.
BEST has announced the launch of special bus services operating from South Mumbai to North-West Mumbai, passing through Girgaum, Lalbaug, Parel, Kalachowki and Chembur. The new routes will include Bus Route No. 4 Limit, 7 Mary, 8 Mary, and A-21.
To enhance the festive spirit in South Mumbai, BEST plans to illuminate 71 procession routes with 2,591 lamps. Additionally, 20 immersion spots and 39 artificial ponds will be lit up to celebrate Ganeshotsav. These initiatives aim to provide a seamless and joyful commuting experience for devotees and residents alike.
The Mumbai Traffic Police has requested that the Coastal Road be open 24/7 during the Ganesh festival from September 7 to 17. Currently, the road operates from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., with the northern section also closed on weekends. To manage the expected traffic surge, civic authorities have agreed to keep the road open around the clock during the festival.
