Mumbai, Jan 9: A college girl from Mumbai drowned while clicking selfies with friends at Bandra Bandstand. Although two of her friends jumped into the water to save her, the two youth are also feared dead. Fire brigade rescue operation and Bandra police have reached the spot and rescue operations are going on.
Reportedly, the incident occurred when the girl had gone to take a stroll along with her friends. As per Times of India‘s Report, the girl’s friends were clicking selfies standing on a rock next to the fort close to Bandra Worli Sea Link when she fell of the rocks. Talking about the incident, Bandra police senior inspector R Dhavle said, “The girls were standing 50 metres away from the shore when water rose. They did not notice water rising and remained on the rock taking pictures (selfies). On seeing the girl, two youth standing nearby also jumped into water to rescue the girl but got caught in the tide. People present at the spot immediately informed the police who rushed to the spot. As per reports, all the three girls are residents of Govandi.
TOI quote Mumbai police spokesperson DCP Dhananjay Kulkarni who said that the college girls are from Bainganwadi locality in Govandi. One of them, 18-year-old Tarannum slipped from the Fort and fell in to the water. The youth who tried to save her, Ramesh Walunj is also missing. Kulkarni also said, “Our sagari boats with the help of fire brigade are doing rescue operation. As this is high tide time we are facing problems in rescue operation. Hoping that both of them are safe.”
