New Delhi: In the last 10 years, the Indian Railways has witnessed a massive transformation. From complete electrification of railway tracks to modification of railway platforms, the Modi government has brought in a slew of changes aimed at making passengers’ travel experiences more convenient and comfortable. The Indian Railways has also inducted a number of high-tech trains and modified the existing ones.

In its latest addition, the Indian Railways is reportedly set to introduce Mumbai–Hyderabad High-Speed Rail (MHHSR) project. Once completed, the Mumbai to Hyderabad that takes 14-16 hours will be slashed to three. The 767-km bullet train corridor will connect Mumbai, Pune, and Hyderabad with 11 strategically placed stations, including a potential one at the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport.

Here are some of the key details:

• Trains will run at 320 km/h (peaking at 350 km/h)
• The route will have 11 strategically placed stations, including Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex, Pune, and Hyderabad.
• The train will include features like earthquake detection systems (UrEDAS), digital signalling, and a mix of elevated, underground, and at-grade tracks for seamless travel.
• Tickets are expected to cost 1.5 times a first-class AC train fare, offering a premium yet accessible experience.

Although construction has yet to start, surveys, feasibility studies, and alignment planning are currently in progress. This project is one of six high-speed rail corridors planned across India, with the Mumbai-Ahmedabad line already underway. Once operational, the MHHSR is expected to enhance tourism, ease congestion, and redefine rail travel standards in the country.
