Mumbai: A journalist and his friend were attacked by at least four unknown miscreants near Gamdevi Police station in Mumbai. The unidentified men attacked journalist Herman A Gomes at around 1:30 AM on Sunday night. The victim added that they also took his friend’s phone. Meanwhile, an investigation is underway to ascertain the cause behind the accident.

Attacks on journalists have been on the rise. On June 14 this year, veteran journalist and Rising Kashmir editor Shujaat Bukhari was attacked by unidentified gunmen outside his office in Jammu and Kashmir capital.

Bukhari, who was leaving his office in Press Enclave in the city centre Lal Chowk for an iftar party when he was shot at. In yet another case, a senior television journalist was attacked by around eight passengers inside a suburban train.

Sudhir Shukla, who works for a Hindi news channel, sustained injuries in the attack that took place between Mira Road and Andheri railway stations on Western Railway, the official had reported.
