Navi Mumbai, Mar 23: Khargar police have arrested a 36-year-old woman for killing her daughter over suspicion of having an affair with her husband, who was the girl’s biological father. The woman, a mother of four, allegedly used her ‘dupatta’ to strangulate the 16-year-old girl.
The woman is a home-maker, whereas her husband is a civil contractor. While their two children lived with them in Mumbai, the other two live in Rajasthan, their native place. The victim was a student in a local school.
Inspector Dilip Kale, who is the investigating officer in the case, said the woman killed her daughter in her flat at around 10:30 am on March 4. There were strangulation marks on the neck of the victim. The police registered a case of accidental death but sent the body for post-mortem. The body was taken to their native place in Rajasthan where her funeral was conducted.
The post-mortem report revealed that the cause of death was strangulation–after this the police questioned some classmates of the victim. The girls revealed that she was being assaulted by her mother for allegedly being in a sexual relationship with her father. Her mother had been threatening to kill her or her father. She had allegedly attempted suicide by consuming a poisonous substance.
The parents of the victim were summoned to the police station. Her mother, police claimed, admitted to committing the crime. She said the girl had hit back, prompting the woman to strangulate her. Police are also investigating the role of the man.
