Mumbai, August 29: Life in Mumbai has been thrown out of gear as very heavy rains have been lashing the city for the past two days. The intensity of rains grew on Tuesday morning and the showers are accompanied with strong winds. From Borivali to Churchgate and Mira Road to Colaba, the whole of Mumbai is witnessing incessant rains. The Indian Meteorological Department has said that the rains are likely to continue for the next 48 hours.
Due to waterlogging in many areas including Bandra, Dadar and Hindmata, heavy traffic jams are being reported. The local train, which is called the lifeline of Mumbai, is also experiencing delays and some have even been cancelled. Commuters said that some trains going to Churchgate were being terminated at Andheri on the Western Line. The Central Line was also witnessing cancellations in view of heavy showers.
Meanwhile, the Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Samiti, Greater Mumbai, has issued an advisory to Ganapati mandals to disconnect power supplies if there is water-logging in area with it being the fifth day of the ongoing Ganpati Utsav.
A high tide is also expected in Mumbai today at 4:35 pm which is expected to be 3.32 meters in height, reported news agency ANI. Mumbaikars have been asked to maintain a safe distance from beaches in the city.
