Mumbai Rains Live Updates: The financial capital of India (Mumbai) and its suburbs witnessed heavy rainfall on Monday (August 18, 2025), culminating to severe waterlogging, transport disruptions and flight delays. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for the city and neighbouring districts. The authorities appealed to citizens to avoid unnecessary travel. Schools were directed to remain shut while offices asked to leave the employees early. The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places and extremely heavy showers at isolated locations in Mumbai, Thane and Raigad till Tuesday (August 19, 2025). Ratnagiri was also placed on red alert, while Palghar, Sindhudurg, Aurangabad, Hingoli, Jalgaon, Jalna, Nanded and Parbhani remained under orange alert.Palghar, Sindhudurg, Aurangabad, Hingoli, Jalgaon, Jalna, Nanded, Parbhani districts of Maharashtra were kept on orange alert and the other districts were kept on yellow alert.
Amid heavy rainfall, 400 residents near the Mithi River, particularly from Kranti Nagar slum, were evacuated to safety at MM Municipal School in Kurla, where the BMC has arranged accommodation and meals.
On the Harbour Line, services between Kurla and Chunabhatti were suspended from 11:20 am. On the Main Line, Kurla–Sion UP Fast and DN Fast services were halted from 11:25 am due to waterlogging on LBS Road between the two stations.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced that government and semi-government offices will remain closed today and urged private establishments to allow employees to work from home and avoid unnecessary travel.
