Mumbai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that intense to very intense spells of rain are expected to occur at isolated places in Mumbai and adjoining areas on Wednesday during the next 3-4 hours. “Intense to very intense spells of rain very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Nasik, Ahmednagar, Nandurbar, Dhule during next 3-4 hours,” IMD said.
“Possibility of thunder/lightning accompanied with gusty winds in some areas. Take precautions while moving out,” IMD further said.

9: 02 PM: The state disaster management officials have confirmed that 13 persons and 206 livestock lost their lives in the rains and the subsequent floods.
8:20 PM: The NDRF said all seven teams deployed at locations are active on the ground to rescue people from flood-like situations after the heavy downpour.
7: 15 PM: The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed seven teams in Maharashtra in the wake of heavy rains in many parts of the state.
6:15 PM: Gates of the Middle Vaitarna Dam, one of the dams that supplies water to Mumbai, were opened as the city and neighbouring areas received heavy rains following Cyclone Gulab.

Mumbai has recorded 100 mm in the last 24 hours, this is the second time that Mumbai rains have reached the three digit mark, the last time Mumbai saw over 100 mm this month was September 1.
12.30 pm: Potholes in Mumbai to be repaired on priority
BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal has ordered officials to fill all potholes on a war footing in the next two to three weeks. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will also hold a meeting this evening for assessing the situation of roads in Maharashtra.

11 am: Low-pressure area over western India likely to intensify, bring heavy rains in Gujarat, Maha, says IMD
After bringing intense rainfall over the eastern coast and central India, Cyclone Gulab weakened into a low pressure area on Tuesday, but it is again likely to intensify further after reaching the western coast, IMD said.
10.45 am: Heavy to very rain, thunderstorm predicted in parts of Mumbai
Moderate rain in Mumbai city and suburbs with the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorm with wind speed reaching 30-40 kph at isolated places, says Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
10.40 am: 12 gates of Manjara dam closed after water discharge causes flooding in 3 Marathwada districts
Twelve gates of the Manjara dam were closed early Wednesday morning, a day after heavy water discharge from the reservoir following heavy rains led to flooding in some villages of Beed, Latur and Osmanabad districts in Marathwada region of Maharashtra.
10.30 am: Heavy rain predicted in Palghar due to Cyclone Gulab
Additional commissioner of Thane Municipal Corporation Sandeep Malvi said, “Due to cyclonic storm Gulab, heavy rain has been predicted in Palghar district, in view of which Palghar Collector Dr Manik Gursal appealed to the citizens to take proper precautions.”
