Mumbai, Jun 4: Another spell of heavy rains lashed Mumbai and surrounding areas on Monday evening. Areas such as Kurla, Colaba, Bandra, Mulund, Lower Parel, Kandivali and parts of Navi Mumbai witnessed heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms. Local train services on Central and Western lines were unaffected. “No overhead wire broke. It was an external wire thrown over OHE or flew over OHE which was immediately removed from OHE and traffic normalized within few minutes,” Central Railways tweeted. Heavy rains caused waterlogging in some parts of Mumbai, leading to traffic jams. Waterlogging was reported on many stretches of the Eastern Freeway. At Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, at least nine incoming flights of different airlines were diverted to other airports like Ahmedabad on account of congestion at Mumbai and inclement weather conditions. The delays were expected to continue till 11.30 p.m.

A tree fell in Thane following strong winds. The IMD’s Mumbai office has forecast a thunderstorm, accompanied with gusty winds with lightning, over the next few hours in Thane and other areas, and on Tuesday. Flights were delayed and there were traffic snarls in most parts of Mumbai after heavy rains on Sunday.
