Mumbai, July 31: Cash and jewellery worth Rs 3.25 lakh was stolen from playback singer and music composer Mika Singh’s Oshiwara apartment. A complaint has been registered at the Oshiwara police station. A report in Mumbai Mirror said investigators were looking for one of the singer’s aides who could be seen entering the Oshiwara building and leaving between 3PM and 4PM, around the time the theft reportedly occurred, in the CCTV footage. Reports say only the suspect was spotted entering or leaving the building around that time and that he has been missing since. (Also Read: Court Suspends Daler Mehndi’s Jail Term)
The suspect, 27-year-old Ankit Vasan, helped Mika organise his projects and live shows and had been working with the singer for over a decade. “His manager has informed us that they were unable to trace Ankit’s whereabouts following the theft on Sunday evening,” said a police officer from Oshiwara police station was quoted in the report.
Police were informed that Vasan lived in Mika’s studio in Andheri and had unrestricted access to the singer’s apartment. “Even the building’s watchmen were familiar with the suspect and so, he was never stopped from entering or leaving the building,” the officer said. Oshiwara police station senior inspector Sailesh Pasalwar was quoted by the daily as saying, “A case under section 381(theft by clerk or servant) of the IPC has been registered against Ankit. We are trying to trace him.”
