Mumbai to get five new metro lines, construction to start from December
The construction of four new metro routes will be completed till 2022. MMRDA had allocated RS 6,976 crore budget for these metro projects.
Mumbai, May 8: Mumbai suburbs are going to get five new metro lines as per the MMRDA plan. The metro construction work will start from December 2017. Swami Samarth Nagar-Jogeshwari-Kanjurmarg-Vikhroli, DN Nagar-Mankhurd, Dahisar East-Mira Road-Bhayander and Wadala-Ghatkopar-Mulund-Kasarvadavli are the new planned metro routes for the Mumbai.
The construction of four new metro routes will be completed till 2022. MMRDA had allocated RS 6,976 crore budget for these metro projects. Currently, Mumbai has a 12 KM metro line which is Versova- Andheri-Ghatkopar. Meanwhile, another metro construction is underway on three routes: Colaba-Bandra-Seepz, Andheri-Dahisar and Dahisar-DN Nagar.
Till 2019 Dahisar-DN Nagar and Andheri-Dahisar route will be completed as per the government deadline and the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz likely to be accredited by 2021. By constructing Colaba-Bandra-Seepz route approx 6.6 lakh vehicle trips will be reduced and it will help to reduce carbon dioxide which is harmful to the environment.
Central Railway and Western Railway is the busiest line from which at least 75 lakh people travel every day. This new metro projects will help to control the accidental death and reduce 35-40 per cent crowd from local train, according to the MMRDA. Metro on new routes is expected to improve connectivity to areas like Bhayander, Kalyan and Bhiwandi.
