The Centre today came out with a notification for the long pending proposal of constructing a coastal road in Mumbai, aimed at reducing the traffic woes of the city.
“The Centre has issued the final notification for constructing a 34 km coastal road from Nariman Point to Kandivili. In June, the Centre had given its approval for the project,” a statement from the Maharashtra government said.
The move will also help address traffic woes, especially the traffic from northwestern suburbs to city.[ALSO READ: Dutch technical experts to guide on Mumbai Metro and proposed coastal road]
Currently, 60 per cent of the vehicular traffic is taken care by the Western Express highway.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who had been corresponding with the Centre also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister of State for Environment and Forest (MoEF) Prakash Javadekar for clearing the project.
