Mumbai, Jun 12: Traffic on the Western Express Highway is likely to suffer due to Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s rally from Bandra Kurla Complex that will end at Goregaon Exhibition Center today. The Western Express Highway is already giving nightmares to commuters due to the ongoing metro rail work and Rahul Gandhi‘s rally may add to their woes.
According to senior Congress leader in Mumbai Sanjay Nirupam, around 1200 autorickshaws are expected to join Rahul Gandhi‘s rally. The Congress president will also address a gathering at NESCO in Goregaon. “We realise that people will be affected and so all those rickshaws going towards Goregaon will ferry people for free if they are going to alight along the way,” Bhola Yadav, autorickshaw union leader of Congress, was quoted as saying.
Mumbai Police has issued an advisory for the general public that Western Express Highway will be affected due to the event. “There will be around 400 autorickshaws that are expected to assemble for Rahul Gandhi’s event in Goregaon. We have taken necessary steps to ensure smooth flow of vehicles,” Amitesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner (Traffic), Mumbai Police said.
Rahul will also appear before a magistrate court in Bhiwandi city in connection with a defamation case filed by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
