Mumbai, September 4: Piyush Goyal has replaced Suresh Prabhu as the Minister of Railways after the Cabinet reshuffle on Sunday. With Piyush Goyal being a Mumbaikar, the citizens of the Maximum City, as well as the railway officials, are expecting better development of local trains here. The Central and Western railway officials hope that Goyal will make sure several railway projects that had been piled up will finally get completed. The officials say that Goyal can help frame a policy at a central level and also inspect local station and improve facilities for commuters travelling in local trains.

The officials are also expecting that the bullet train project from Mumbai to Ahmedabad will be boosted by Goyal. According to Times of India, a resident from Belapur hopes that the problems of delaying and suspension of trains on the Harbour line will be tackled by Goyal soon. A Central Railway officer said that he wants Piyush Goyal to strengthen the infrastructure of all promised mass transit and capacity augmentation projects and look after improvement of the revenue in times when Indian Railways have to compete with airlines when it comes to the budget. One of the senior railway officials said that when Suresh Prabhu was given a different ministry on Sunday, they thought Mumbai would be neglected if the railway portfolio goes to someone from another state. However, with Piyush Goyal taking the responsibility of Railway Minister now, it has brought cheers to several officials from the city. They expect Goyal to focus on two delayed projects in Mumbai along with MUTP-III. These projects will make it easy for people to commute on the city’s suburban network, which is used by more than 7 million daily passengers. Despite several meetings in the past on the Bandra-Virar and CST-Panvel elevated corridors, there hardly has been any progress in these projects.
