Mumbai: The first underground metro in Mumbai, which is expected to ease traffic congestion in the city, is all set to begin operations in July. The 33.5-km stretch of the whole underground stretch starts at Aarey Colony and goes on to cover as many as 27 train stations. After the first phase, the second phase of the tunnel will likely begin in the next few months to cover more areas in the city.
It should be noted that the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation has invested over Rs 37,000 crores in this metro project which will address the city’s perennial traffic woes.
Mumbai’s First Underground Metro has as many as 27 locations, spanning over 56 km stretch, will be covered under the underground metro project in Mumbai. 26 stations will be underground and will be covered by the Mumbai Metro.
The stations that will be covered include Cuffe Parade, Vidhan Bhavan, Churchgate, Hutatma Chowk, CST Metro, Kalabadevi, Girgaon, Grant Road, Mumbai Central Metro, Mahalaxmi, Science Museum, Acharya Atre Chowk, Worli, Siddhivinayak, Dadar, Sitaladevi, Dharavi, BKC, Vidyanagari, Santacruz, Domestic Airport, Sahar Road, International Airport, Marol Naka, MIDC, SEEPZ and Aarey Depot.
For the general information of the commuters, the Mumbai underground metro services will begin at 6:30 AM till 11 PM. These underground metro train will run at a speed of up to 90 km per hour, will be available to commuters every few minutes.
The first phase will be launched in July, and the completion of the entire project, including the second phase of the tunnel, is expected to be done within the next eight months.
