Mumbai, October 7: The concert of prolific Ghazal singer Ghulam Ali scheduled to be held in Mumbai on October 9 might be in trouble, as the Shiv Sena announced a protest against it, on Wednesday. The party which co-governs the state of Maharashtra with the Bharatiya Janata Party, raised objections against the Pakistani artist’s performance. The protests are in relation with the tense ties between Indian and Pakistan, following the continuous and incessant ceasefire violations by Pakistan and the cancellation of the National Security Advisory meeting, this year. Ali was scheduled to perform at Shanmukhanand Hall on Friday.

“We can’t have cultural ties with Pakistan when they kill our soldiers,” Shiv Sena said today, according to a report by NDTV. Members of the Sena’s cine wing, Sena Chitrapat, today met the officials of the hall, urging them to cancel the concert. One of them reportedly told the event organisers that Indian should maintain cultural ties with Pakistan, at a time when “Pakistan has targeted Indian soldiers, decapitated them and returned their headless bodies.” The Hall is a place, where the Sena also frequently holds events. The party had also protested against wildly popular singer Atif Aslam’s concert in India and the Pakistani cricket team playing on Indian soil. The 47 year old Ghulam Ali, has sung for many Indian films and has also performed at a concert in Varanasi earlier. The BJP has so far, not reacted to the Sena’s decision to protests against Ali, but the party seems determined to stick to its stand, no matter what its coalition partner says.
