Jaipur, June 16: A social worker was beaten to death in Rajasthan after he objected and tried to stop officials of the government who were trying to capture an image of a woman defecating in the open. The incident took place on Friday morning in a tribal district. Zafar Khan, the 55-year-old was beaten up by five officials of the Pratapgarh municipal council who were on a tour to shame people. A case against 5 has been registered and the investigation is underway.
The brother of the deceased, Mohammad Khan, told Hindustan Times that after Zafar was attacked he was rushed to the hospital but the doctors declared him dead on arrival. Qayoom, the nephew of Zafar Khan, told the newspaper that Zafar was demanding the construction of toilets in the area as there are none.
Post the death of Khan, his family along with others in the tribal area demanded compensation and arrest of municipal council commissioner. The killing of Khan was called “communal” by the Muslim organisation. On this, Dr. M Iqbal Siddiqui, media secretary of Jamaat-e-Islam-e-Hind in Jaipur, the administration is trying to hide the Pratapgarh communal incident.
Police have been deployed considering the matter sensitive and to maintain law and order.

Nadeem Khan, a local Congress leader told the paper that “Post the killing of Khan, NH-113 was blocked was several hours.” He also told that collector, police commissioner and municipal council chairman did not meet the protestors.
As per a Times of India report published on May 29, the Rajasthan government, under the Clean Indian Mission for rural, has made 4,973 gram panchayats open defecation free and 58.26 lakhs toilets have been constructed in the scheme monitored personally by CM Vasundhara Raje.
