Dec 12: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Sardhana in Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Som on Saturday claimed that he received death threat calls from Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). Som claimed that he received an internet call from a person who claimed to be from the ISIS group. The BJP leader in a complaint to the local police said that the man spoke in broken Hindi and called around 9:30AM on Saturday.
Som who is accused in 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots told police that the caller made a death threat and said that assassins have been dispatched to implement the plan. He was also told that no security force would be able to save the legislator. Hindustan Times quoted Som who said, “I have reported the matter to the police and given them details of the phone conversation.” (Also Read: 3 ISIS suspects held at Nagpur Airport)
Som said that he was given Z plus security after two attempts on his life. A bomb had exploded at his Roorkee rally and unidentified assailants had fired at his home in Sardhana. Police are trying to identify the location the caller and trace him through surveillance. The Nagpur Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Saturday morning arrested had three youth from Telangana at the Nagpur Airport who were planning to join the Islamic State.
